Moving from WordPress to InsightSite: steps and caveats
Plenty of teams still run their old site on WordPress. InsightSite borrows what WordPress does well for content (scheduling, revisions, categories and tags, plugins) and ships a direct migration tool.
Steps
- In WordPress, go to Tools → Export → All content and download the
.xml(WXR) file. - In the InsightSite admin, open Tools → Import from WordPress, choose the file, the target language, whether to keep publishing states and whether existing items are skipped or overwritten.
- Click Start import. The file is parsed in your browser and uploaded in batches, so large sites do not time out.
- Check the report: posts, pages and categories created, updated or skipped.
What is kept
Titles, slugs (URLs stay the same, which matters for SEO), bodies, excerpts, publish dates, categories and tags, and publishing states. Gutenberg block comments are removed and classic-editor line breaks become paragraphs.
Attachments
Images and other attachments still point at the old site. After the migration, re-upload them in the media library or sync the files to R2, Alibaba OSS or Tencent COS with an object storage tool.
After the move
- SEO fields, multilingual sitemaps and llms.txt are built in; no SEO plugin needed.
- Tools → Export backup downloads a JSON backup of the whole site. It is matched by slug and language, so it restores across D1, SQLite, PostgreSQL and MySQL.
